A desktop CRM for Mac and Windows
Vrge is an application you install, not a website you sign in to. It runs on your Mac or PC, keeps your records in an encrypted SQLite file on that machine, and asks for no account. One universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, one installer for Windows.
14-day free trial, no account, no card. Mac and Windows.
What a desktop app means here
- A real installed application
- Vrge is built on Tauri, an application framework with a Rust core. You download a disk image or an installer and run it like any other program. The solo app is sold only as a desktop install; there is no Vrge website to log in to and nothing runs in a browser tab.
- A database file on your disk
- Your records are one SQLite file,
vrge.db, in the app’s data folder. It is encrypted with SQLCipher, and the key lives in your operating system’s keychain, macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager, not in the file and not with us. Export to JSON and CSV works at any time, with or without a valid licence. - Nothing to sign in to
- The 14-day trial starts when you open the app: no account, no email address. When it ends, a licence key typed once is the whole relationship. Activation needs a connection once, to Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record; we operate nothing in its path. After that, each launch re-checks the key with Lemon Squeezy in the background, and if it gets no answer the app trusts the stored licence and carries on, so it keeps working offline. A Team seat signs in to your own server, never to us.
- It keeps working with the window closed
- Closing the window sends Vrge to the menu bar or the system tray, where a timer keeps the observer on its schedule. The tray menu has Scan now, Show Vrge and Quit Vrge. Overdue invoices and payments received arrive as native notifications from the operating system, not from a tab you have to keep open.
- Updates you approve
- On launch and every four hours the app asks updates.getvrge.com whether a newer version exists. If one does, a card offers Install & Restart or Later; nothing installs until you click. Each update is signed, and the app checks the signature against a key compiled into it before installing. Settings → About has a Check for updates button, and on the Mac the app menu has Check for Updates.
- Local AI on the same machine
- Pointed at Ollama, extraction talks to localhost and nothing leaves the computer. Your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key, or the optional Managed AI subscription, are the cloud routes, and each redaction mode has a preview of what it would send.
- Offline
- Every record, the Inbox, undo and export work with no connection, because the database is on the disk. Fetching new mail, cloud AI and the hosted backup wait for one and catch up when it returns.
| Platform | Installer | Minimum OS | Code signing |
|---|---|---|---|
| macOS, one universal build for Apple Silicon and Intel | .dmg | macOS 12 | Apple Developer ID, notarized |
| Windows, x64 | .exe installer | Windows 10 | Not yet signed; SmartScreen prompt once |
On Windows, expect a “Windows protected your PC” screen when you first run the installer. Click More info, then Run anyway. It happens once, on install.
What a desktop app costs you
- No Linux buildVrge ships for macOS and Windows. There is no Linux version and none is scheduled. If you work on Linux, this is not the CRM for you today.
- No phone appThere is no iOS or Android app. A Team seat can open the browser client on a phone, against your own server; a solo licence is the desktop app alone.
- The Windows installer is not code-signed yetThe Mac app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized, so macOS asks only its usual question about a downloaded app. The Windows installer is unsigned, so expect Windows to show its “protected your PC” screen when you first run it. More info, then Run anyway, once. We would rather say so here than have you find out from the dialog.
- Your records are on one machineA solo licence keeps the database on the computer you installed it on. There is no live sync between two of your own machines. Moving to a new one is a backup and a restore: the free scheduled backup writes an encrypted snapshot to a folder you choose (Dropbox, iCloud Drive, a USB stick), and the optional Cloud Backup subscription puts the same snapshot on our storage. Either way, restoring needs the recovery code you saved when you made your first backup. Lose the machine with no backup and the records are gone.
- A browser CRM’s conveniences are realOpen it from any computer with a password, nothing to install, nothing to update, and a lost laptop costs you nothing because the records were never on it. Vrge trades all of that for the records being yours, in an encrypted file on your disk that we cannot read. If you work from three machines a day, weigh that honestly.
Team mode and the browser
A Team licence changes the shape. Records move to a server you run yourself, from two Docker images, and each teammate signs in to it with an email and password, from the desktop app pointed at your server address or from a browser. The browser seat is a full client for the records. It does not connect sources or run the observer; the admin connects the business’s email, calendar, bank and files on the desktop app and reviews proposals there.
So “desktop” is a fact about where the observer runs and where a solo licence keeps its data, not a rule that nobody may open Vrge in a browser. Self-hostable, not open source: the server is yours to run, on a machine you control; we do not host one for you.
Install it. That is the whole setup.
